It's almost exactly 9 years that Brian did his last mile with us - being in Vienna for two weeks as a consultant, he joined us again.
Congratulations to all who did a PR in this anniversary race !
Autumn Mile (Mile No. 100)
Sep Time Trial (5k No. 25)
Before the event was started, we kept a minute of silence for two of our fellow-runners:
Ed Johnson died on 7th September unexpectedly of heart failure. He had been working for UNIDO and was one of the early members of the club.
Steve Edminster passed away peacefully on 9th September after longer illness. He has been the club's president for many years, and when he retired from that function he became our honorary president.
Ed and Steve: we will miss you.
37th Mini-Triathlon
Participants came with wives, daughters, friends _ an unusually huge crowd on Donauinsel at that time of the day. We were lucky with the weather: the rain stopped before the event and resumed afterwards.
36th Mini-Triathlon
After our usual starting place on the east bank of the Neue Donau had been converted into a "family beach", we had to find a new one which is a swimming platform on the west bank. The distance of the swimming course was therefore, however, at least 100m shorter. That is why today's triathlon will not be considered for PRs and records - sorry, Matteo.
For the next triathlon we will adjust the swimming part to match the usual distance.
Jun Time Trial (5k No. 24)
Since there is nothing anymore to qualify for and due to the heat, it was decided to do a 5k time trial instead of the 10k Qualification Run. Looked like everybody appreciated it.
8th VIC Games (10k No. 241)
Unbelievable PRs - improvements by 6 minutes (Bettina, Francesco) and even 11 minutes (Margaret) !
The printout with the results was blown away after the race, but thank goodness the timers were able to find it in the bushes.
Thanks to all who helped with timing and prize-giving !
8th VIC Games (Mile No. 99)
Record participation: 14 teams registered this year and for the first time there were more female than male teams.
The start had to be repeated when the equipment played tricks on the timers.
5th IAG Qualification Run (Mile No. 98)
Cheered by his mother, Jesse ran a new VIC record improving Matt's time by 1 second.
Although the IAG 2010 have been cancelled for good, we continue doing all our qualification runs as scheduled.
Congratulations to all those who set up new PRs (50% of the participants !).
4th IAG Qualification Run (10k No. 240)
Despite tiredness after last weekend's (half)marathon, despite the news of the possible cancellation of the IAG 2010 and unimpressed by the ashes of Eyjafjallaj_kull, 29 runners participated in this time trial.
Again more PRs even by those who ran on the weekend, and at the top: 4 runners again under 36 minutes.
